Why we'll be telling our kids "back in my day"

Below are two technologies that blow my mind. The first is a 3d scanner and the second is a software that can create 3d models from pictures. Although 3d scanners aren't an entirely new discovery, the digitizer from MakerBot does a pretty good job of showing us how soon it will become a desktop application. I imagine prototyping complex forms out of foam and then dropping them on a 3d scanner and then 3d printing them in an ABS plastic. That's cool, but if it wasn't cool enough the software below can take an image and create a 3d object from it, with some human help and mainly based on sweeps, but it still shows where technology is going. What I really want to know is if it can take a sketch and turn it into a 3d object. That would be some encouragement to work on your perspective!
