A Living Room Redesign
I am fortunate enough to be marrying into a very welcoming family, so welcoming that they would trust me to make important design decisions for a new living room. This was a little project I did to surprise my future brother and sister-in-law, and their three children. As they left for spring break we quickly rushed to Ikea (who doesn't love Ikea?) to pick out a new sectional and some other seating for their living room. Of course, if we wanted that HGTV extreme makeover surprise feeling we would have to do better than just some new couches. I've often noticed interior designers picking some unique pieces and coordinating accessories in the room to match. With our budget and time constraints, finding just the right piece would have been difficult so we did it in reverse. Being an active family with young children, I chose colors that were bold, bright, and fun. One of the things I've learned as a designer is that you shouldn't be afraid to take some risks. Sticking with neutral colors was too safe and boring so I'm thankful that Sunny's family trusted me as I took risks with their living room. I was a little nervous too since industrial design and interior design are quite different. Anyways, back to that unique piece we were talking about... After selecting some pillows, lamp shades, and side tables I figured I had enough design in me to create our a piece that would tie it together. The wall clock/art shown here is my finishing touch.
